Memoirs in V.H.S. is a series of Films by David Cartwright that are a semi-autobiographical exploration designed to chronicle life as it happens throughout many years.

The series begins with the tragedy of divorce and separation. and the fall into a disparaging and empty state of existence and being. created to express and evoke feelings with no dialog the technique was described by Jorn Bramann (author on camcorder art) as 'video poetry'.

The first installation in the Memoirs series is entitled "No Salvation" and was created around 1994-1995.

The second film includes footage acquisitioned from around 2000 - 2002. It explores a life in transition between the devastation wrought forth in "No Salvation" and the life that comes next. Part Two is called 'Trapped' and unlike the first installment this film includes dialog between characters and in the form of free verse poetry lifted from the pages of David's book "The Life Between Cigarettes". the book chronicles some of David's poetry from mid to late nineties to the early two thousands.
